Flight Name Rebekah Day Head Coach for 2013

(Orlando, FL) – The Florida Flight named Rebekah Day the Head Coach for the 2013 season.

Day, a recent graduate and 4-year basketball player from Southeastern University, replaces Flight Owner Mark King, who stepped down after a disappointing 2012 season to focus on other aspects of the team.

Day started as an intern with the Flight during the teams inaugural 2010 season. Seeking a coaching career, Day spent last season on the bench with the Flight as an assistant coach. She also spent a semester in New York as a Graduate Assistant Coach under Coach Daryle Tucker at Green Mountain College (NCAA III).

“I’m so excited about this opportunity,” said Day. “It’s rare to walk into this kind of opportunity right out of college. I’ve been preparing for the last 6 months, and I’m ready for the challenges ahead!”

Appointing young talent to leadership positions is nothing new for the Flight, whose mission is to utilize the platform of professional basketball to invest in the lives of others. Cal Thompson, the General Manager of the Flight, is also graduating from University of Central Florida this semester.

“We probably have the youngest executive team in all of professional sports right now,” said King. “I wanted to build a team that provides a platform for others to propel their careers in the direction of their hopes and dreams.”

Coach Day will begin her professional coaching career this weekend as the Flight travel to Palm Beach for a double-header weekend against the Palm Beach Knights. Both games are at 1:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, and will be held at Inlet Grove Community High

School. For more information about attending the game, email info@flighthoops.com.
