Gregory St. Remy calls out the play against the Heartland Prowl in 2012
(Orlando, FL) – Former Florida Flight player Gregory St. Remy has been named the new Head Coach of the 2018 FBA expansion Poinciana Pride.
St. Remy began his professional basketball career with the Flight after college stops at St. Olaf College (NCAA III) and Webber International University (NAIA I). As a rookie, he helped lead the Flight to the Championship game, falling short on the road to the Cary Invasion in 2011.
Life circumstances caused St. Remy to down shift his playing career, choosing to devote more time to being a husband in 2014 and a father in 2015. He launched his Light Ball Basketball program in his hometown of Kissimmee to stay involved with the game. His remained a regular face of the Florida Flight, attending practices as a mentor for new players and promoting and attending various events.
“I’ve always known Greg would eventually coach,” said Flight Owner and Head Coach Mark King. “From day one, he has always been one of the most vocal players on and off the floor. He’s always been a sponge, soaking in both the business and the basketball happenings with the Flight. I’m excited to see how he does coaching professionally for the first time.”
Taking notice of the growth of the FBA, St. Remy and another former Florida Flight teammate, Dimas Cintron, made the jump from players to owners in 2017, partnering up to launch the Pride. Following the lead of another Flight player, Corey Williams, who also owns the FBA’s Space Coast Stars in Melbourne, Florida, they become the 2nd and 3rd players from the Florida Flight to move into team ownership.
“This opportunity is exciting, but also very important to me. A coach sometimes fills the role of a parent, mentor or big brother to players,” said St. Remy. “It’s an honor to be in a position to bring this team to my community and help players pursue pro basketball as a career and hopefully achieve greatness, just as Coach King has been doing with the Florida Flight and the entire FBA. He and Commissioner (Greg) Kite have given me a tremendous opportunity, and it really says a lot about what the FBA can really do for players. Dimas and I are looking forward to a great first year.”
The team is hosting their first tryout on Sunday, January 14th, at the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center. Tryouts take place from 2:00pm – 5:00pm. Players can pre-register or pay at the door. The inaugural season kicks off on March 3rd when they host an FBA Kickoff tournament, in which every FBA team will compete.
